I Am My Own Home
Manifesting a full and safe emotional life: recognizing that I am my own home. A new moon in Cancer ritual.
About this moon
On July 14 there's a new moon in Cancer, and it's not just any new moon. We have a stellium: more than three planets gathered in the same sign. In this case they are the Sun, the Moon and Mercury retrograde, all three in conjunction in Cancer.
This is no small thing: the energy of these three planets is working together. And because Mercury is retrograde, this energy moves us inward — it makes us question how we communicate, both with the people close to us and with ourselves when no one else is listening.
The Sun in Cancer brings a season of returning to our roots, to what we call home, after the more social and scattered season of Gemini. The new moon in Cancer adds the emotional layer: how understood you feel by your people, how safe the space you inhabit within truly is. That's why this ritual isn't about manifesting something outside: it's inner, emotional manifestation — manifesting that you yourself are your home.
Materials
- •A white or green candle
- •A mirror or reflective surface
- •Paper and a pen
Journaling
Before the ritual, take a moment to write with honesty. There are no right answers, only yours.
- •In what moments do you expect the people close to you to understand you without telling them what you need?
- •What do you tell yourself when something doesn't go as you hoped? Be specific: use the exact words that come to mind, not the softened version.
- •Where did you learn to speak to yourself this way? Do you recognize that voice in someone else in your life, or is it a mix of several?
- •If you spoke to yourself the way you speak to someone you love deeply, what would you tell yourself today?
The ritual
Opening
Light the candle. Call on your guides and protectors. Place yourself in front of the mirror.
Body
Say aloud the phrase you identified in the journaling, the one you tell yourself when something goes wrong. Listen to it. Don't correct it yet: just recognize it as something you learned, not as a truth.
Then say aloud the phrase you would say to someone you love. Repeat it while looking into your own eyes and speaking to yourself with love. Notice the difference between the two voices.
Closing
To close, say the incantation aloud, looking into your own eyes:
I recognize that my inner voice learned to protect me as best it could, and that it is my friend.
Today I choose to speak to myself with tenderness, as well as with truth.
What was once a refuge of fear is now a home of honesty.
- •Thank your guides.
- •Close the space.
- •You can light the candle again whenever you notice your inner dialogue has hardened, as a reminder of this commitment.
